ROXAS ON LIBERAL PARTY? NEXT PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT?
The recent election of the Liberal Party headed by former Senate President Jovito Salonga and Franklin Drilon signals a not-so-early preparation for the 2010 Presidential Election. Senator Mar Roxas has now succeeded as the President of the Party. He seems to be the contender of the Liberal Party for President in 2010. What would DENR Secretary Lito Atienza say?
Anyway, how would we picture Mar Roxas as the next President of the country?Let us remember some chapters of history when Manuel Roxas was our President. Although Gerry Roxas was an opposition leader during Marcos regime, the same Roxas blood flows in their veins, including Mar Roxas. I have nothing against Mar Roxas. My only fear is that what would his policy be if ever he becomes our next president. Would he stick to the ties of the United States like what the old Roxas did? His silence in the Senate is alarming - it’s a play safe manifestation of his stand on political and econoic issues including foreign relations, not to mention the ideology of his party of course.
In my humble opinion, the next president of the Philippines should have an experience in local government adiministration. He/she should have outstanding contributions in uplifting the lives of his/her constituents and developing his/her city or municipality. He/she should understand that local governent units are units of development therefore they need special approach to development. He/she should be a visionary, goal-directed, and Golden Rule follower. Above all, he/she should have solid principles and firm convictions of improving the sad plight of the Filipino people.
I think enough of Roxas as President. Would we repeat the same Macapagal in Malacanang? I think it’s enough!
